Fanfest 2022 – Iceland welcomes New Eden

After a break of several years due to Corona, it was time for the Fanfast of EvE Online again at the beginning of May.
And CCP managed to make life really difficult for themselves even before the Fanfast and also to raise the expectations to unattainable heights due to various statements. I had already written something about this in the latter article. But I will take up the point again towards the end.

This year the Caldari were the host of the event and accordingly the location was decorated in the style of Jita 4-4.
After several years, I think it did everyone good to see each other again in real life and not just virtually.

But let’s get straight to the points that I found particularly interesting. I will limit myself to the content of the keynote and its impression.
These have basically already left a good impression on me personally.
CCP has announced a lot and has grumbled that there is still quite a need for development in many points.

Also, some items are still hidden in the roadmap to the 20th birthday.

EvE Online is often affectionately called the most beautiful Excel spreadsheet in the world. And what can we say.
Due to a cooperation between Microsoft and CCP, we will soon be able to really experience EvE in Excel and link it better.
There will be a plugin for this which will make the ESI data usable in Excel.
As I find a very ingenious idea and CCP had to make several times relatively clear that this is not a joke.
Personally, I have already tried to build up sheets with the current possibilities, but failed mercilessly each time and for the development of an own software solution I simply lack the skills.
So I am very curious what possibilities there will be.

CCP has found a way to top the skins. The system behind this is called Heraldy and is nothing else like the heraldry in the first place.
Sense and purpose is a further individualization of the own ships and also stations. For this it is currently planned, similar to the current fitting, to equip the ships and station accordingly.

So you can also decorate your own ships and personalize them even more.
The whole thing should work ingame via a new currency that is neither tradable nor buyable.
Holograms are also conceivable here. Will we finally see the first ships with cat ears?

I think CCP Aurora had the most important appearance during the keynotes and showed us a lot.
The inner life of the station will be breathed much more life. This means that the arrival and departure frequencies will be completely revised.
But also the change of ships is to be made much more exciting. Especially for the citadels of players it is now possible to see the status of the station based on the interior view.
Heavily damaged stations are now also clearly affected from the inside and we can see the correspondingly severe damage.

For me, the most important point here is that we not only see our current ship, but our other ships are visible docked around us.
So now we see much more and have even more the feeling to live in a living station.
Depending on the size of the ship, the docking point is designed differently. Also ships from other players should now be visible.

The second important point of CCP Aurora concerns the Factional Warfare, i.e. the war between the empires.
This is now to be significantly rebuilt and made more dynamic. For this purpose, the entire system will be turned upside down.
The individual factions will be given objectives that have to be completed.

This will also have an impact on other areas of the game, such as zero or highsec, for which mechanics are now being tested and tried out.
In the current trailer is already clearly pointed in the direction of changes and as it seems conflict between Gallente and Caldari comes to a head.

In addition to this, it is also planned to advance the background story in New Eden via the newly introduced arcs.
We can already see a part of this in the current ingame event for Capsuleer Day XIX.
Accordingly, the Deathless group will also have quite an impact. As it seems we are already in the middle of the first storyarc without noticing it.

We’ll see what’s still to come in this regard.

CCP is also currently working on revising the current UI. The new UI is called PhotonUI and should make the whole interface more modern.
This is already testing some time in the first moves for the players to test ingame available. I am already the whole time with this on the road and find it significantly angehmer.

The previous elements will be updated and modernized accordingly. CCP pursues but as seen above the UI to completely rebuild and make it more dynamic.
The elements appeal to me and I could well imagine that the UI shown above could be good. In how far it really looks up in the future we do not know yet.
But the way it takes I like in any case.

CCP has shown a lot and given a good insight into its plans.
And of course, most gamers are looking at the current announcements with the price increase in mind, and I think that CCP has quite a bit planned for next year and must now deliver accordingly.
The loudest voices are of course not enough, these see above all that nothing is done for you personally and therefore no matter what is announced here everything is crap.
The big picture is ignored here, especially by the adaptation of the Factional Warfare on a new basis hefted and this should be seen as a trailblazer.
I am still of the opinion that CCP has a good plan that only needs to be implemented accordingly.
Another point of criticism that is often heard is that CCP makes a lot for new players and forgets “Bitter Vets”. Here too I disagree, if new players can not be kept in the game are eventually no players left.
The fear that EvE from a sandbox to a theme park based on the Arcs to be introduced, I do not see. The arcs are always snapshots and will never reach the dimensions to make EvE a theme park.
The players are screaming for new content that CCP should deliver, but the goal in a sandbox is that only the framework should be defined and the player creates the content itself.
If content is expected from CCP and which then comes one is still complaining.

As I said, I do not understand all the whining and as already said, I see in the development a step in the right direction. A hammer feature was not there, but there are many points that bring EvE further in the right direction and that is in my eyes the central and important.
Experiencing your adventure in New Eden and having fun are the most important things for me. I think the disappointed players hang too much in your views on your previous activities and treadmills to look to the right and left. Sometimes you should also reflect yourself.
