Topic of the month April: Event into EvE Online – A regular change

Hello all,

I have already mentioned in the last article that especially Courier missions need a little more love and I can well imagine within the events that CCP regularly organizes new concepts simply to test.
The concept of events should use CCP more as a playground to try out new things for later missions in the game, provided of course the missions are generally once adapted and not left on the way it has been for years.

Basically, we have three active options within an event, depending on the event.
– Combat
– Exploration
– (Mining)
– (Production)

Basically, these are the basic building blocks of the activities we can go through in EvE, transportation aside.
So an activity that is not always perceived by players.

At the same time, I deliberately put mining and production in parentheses, since these are also usually very rare, and if so, then in a much smaller form than exploration or deliberate conflict.
Mining has even been given smaller events with the construction of own stargates (Trailblazers Event) or in the context of the Foundation Quadrant, in the form of Mining Blitz for the Amarr and Caldari.

So far, I have only seen the manufacture once in the Doctor Who event at the beginning of the year.
Rarely or not at all transport has been a topic in the event. I have already written something about this in the last entry.

I can basically understand it, because the most exciting part of EvE is the fight for glory and honor.
But you also have to be honest here. If you’ve done a dozen of these sites, you know how the hare runs and the rest is no longer a challenge.
The only thing that’s still exciting, regardless of the region you’re in, is the possible thrill of combat with other players.
Both in the form of PVP and in killing the boss of the sites, that is, the race for the loot.

CCP tries to adjust the rules again and again and thus address different target groups, besides veterans as well as beginners to give the opportunity to participate in the events.
Personally, I find it very good, because you can also play around with the different ship types and not only do everything with one ship.

In addition to the fixed annual events that are dedicated to the individual pirate factions in EvE, there are also regular alternating events or smaller events in EvE.
The annual events include The Hunt of the Guristas, which takes place at Easter, the Guardian Gala, which takes place around Valentine’s Day and celebrates the connection between the Serpentis and Angels, and the Winter Nexus event, which takes place at Christmas and features the Sansha.
In addition, the Blood Raiders still accompany us around Halloween in the Halloween Horror.

These are the big annual events that CCP runs every year in a slightly adapted version for the players. Except for the Rogue Drones, all “standard enemies of the empires” have their own recurring event.
Admittedly, CCP held an event here with Researching the Drones last year as part of GM Week. We’ll have to see if it’s permanently linked to this.

Furthermore, smaller events are regularly held here for a bit of variety, which can be one-time events or irregular events.
The last big and unique event was the Doctor Who event in cooperation with BBC. I have already described two articles about this in the past.

Also the Trailblazer event where new star gates had to be built. Nevertheless, there are a few highlights that provide variety and stand out from the crowd.
Among these events is definitely the Federation Grand Prix. Something completely different and somehow very exciting in itself. Not only that we get to know New Eden with all its travel highlights more closely and see once.
Also due to the fact that the trip went through the low and zero sec made it exciting. I have also written an article about this accordingly.

Also the EmpireDays for the four large empires could be expanded significantly more. Whereas I was very disappointed by the Amarr and the Caldari as a pure mining blitz event.
There are also many smaller events organized by players. I think to mention them all here would go beyond the scope, but CCP regularly points them out here.

An event that is also very small but regular is the snowball fight in Luminaire at the beginning of December. Meet and throw snowballs around the ears of other players.

Basically, there are always regular events and thus always something to experience in EvE. CCP always comes up with something special to coincide with the release of new features.
These events, like the Abyssal Proving Grounds, can also serve as a playground for new features.

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some, but I think the events always bring good variety to your world. I play these, if I have time then accordingly always in the Highsec.
But also all other regions can fly here diligently. I hope CCP will be a little more experimental here and use this in the future to test more also fixed components for the game and later to take over in the normal operation.

I want more and more varied missions.
