Games die all the time, servers are shut down, updates are discontinued and so on.
If then the death of a game is indicated very quickly or is also implemented very quickly.
Not so in EvE. The death throes of the game has been going on since almost 2004 and I’ve known it since I started playing EvE….
EvE thus dies since the beginning of time, sometimes more and sometimes less. And there are more or less good reasons why this is so.
Basically, however, a lot seems to be done right and in EvE there is a motto which is not better for the constant death.
Adapt or die.
And that’s how EvE lives… Either you take default from CCP or you are out of luck. At least that’s the idea.
But let’s see what reasons there are why EvE really dies soon:
Reason 1: There is a patch and the monument in Jita has to die again.
A game without a patch? Nowadays unimaginable and even more so for a MMORPG.
And the world changes with every patch and if players are not satisfied, these players do stupid things.
In EvE, the players then have a hobby. They fly to Jita 4-4 and shoot first the monument broken… again… and at some point this monument can’t take any more and is just junk.
And I think the monument is too important for that, so if it was gone the players wouldn’t look for anything new because nothing brings that importance and then they would rather leave the game than fire at another monument.
Reason 2: We build ourselves construction sites and just start things.
Okay, there has to be a more serious reason, of course. CCP has brought lots of content to New Eden over the years and already owned it before, be it Wormholes, Faction Warfare or even Sansha Incursions.
Plenty of material for players to keep themselves busy and also plenty of material for developers to keep themselves busy. At least that’s what the theory tells us, but unfortunately the practice looks different.
We are working on a lot of things, but there are a lot of things we are not working on at the moment. Even though there is urgent work to be done. The expansion of the lore and the pursuit of the current plot threads that have been spun but never really finished has accompanied CCP for a very long time.
Many players are active in these areas, but it is also here felt less and less. Of course, this does not apply to all points, the wormholes are flourishing and areas are constantly smoked out here. What is usually less considered here is the corresponding plot around the Sleepers and the Drifters.
But even the newest visitors in the form of the Triglavians are left halfway by the content and the lore in the game.
Reason 3: Highsec vs. Lowsec vs. Nullsec vs. Wormhole vs. Trig-Space
These are basically the areas this in New Eden gives and they fight among themselves and not only with under material in the game.
So it is also mostly about the attention of the developers and where something has to be done and who is the most important.
Say the players are of the opinion that your game fun and thus their area is the most important and just by CCP is the worst and thus must now necessarily receive an adjustment.
Where you can see this struggle is when the elections for the new CSM are pending the “player representation” in the EvE universe. Here the question arises who is best organized and alone from the structure and the mass it is usually the Nullsec.
So that this also receives the most attention. In percentage terms, the Empire should also have a lot of inhabitants. But by the missing community and the scattering there is not one here. And this everlasting fight is depremating for very many.
Especially if one is very ignored by CCP.
Reason 4: EvE is complex and that’s a good thing, at least for those who play it.
If there’s one thing EvE can’t be accused of, it’s not offering enough content.
There is something for everyone and you can develop freely. At the same time curse and blessing.
For players who get involved it is paradise. For all others it is hell or they only look at their own small horizon.
It is a deterrent and the NPE is a way to make it easier, but the drop is still very high if you want to get in.
So new players also have their difficulties and even jump off again. We just need more new blood and CCP is working on this issue.
Please make more sense in the future, but we already had this topic. A sandbox is not exactly easy to master.
Reason 5: Microtransactions and revenue generation
Something that was frowned upon in the industry at the beginning but is now accepted in many places are microtransactions.
That is, the manufacturer’s idea of taking more out of the player’s pocket than just the basic monthly fee, if applicable.
There is always a golden path, but it stops where you get gameplay benefits.
Another stage is currently being ignited or is in preparation and goes by the name of NFT.
Personally, I can’t do anything with the fact that I own a virtual object. I can’t do anything with it.
For CCP it is important to generate further income to finance other projects.
So far not much came to CCP except for EvE Online and EvE Echos. DUST514 has been discontinued for quite some time and the other projects regularly run in the sand.
All this costs money and of course the owners want to have some.
So CCP shouldn’t overdo it to pull money out of the players’ pockets like others.
Also this month there is something to win in the theme of the month. This time the Scope Syndication Skin for Vargur.
It will be raffled off to one of the commenters, if you tell us what you think is the most ridiculous reason why EvE really dies.
