EvE Fanfest – Worth the trip?

After one year and one digital event it’s that time again.
CCP invites to the annual Fanfest to Iceland and I am very much considering whether I follow this call.

Actually, I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, even if it’s only a short trip to Fanfest this time, if at all. Personally, I think this island is a very interesting place that you should definitely have visited once in your life.

I have already participated in an event of CCP a few years ago, it really was a long time ago and we are talking about the year 2012 in the context of Gamescom in Cologne.
It was actually a very cool event where I met up with a fellow corp member at the time phoenixspirit. No idea if he is still active at all.

I was able to meet some people who played outside of my own corp or alliance and get to know others.

That would also be a main reason for me to travel to Iceland to Fanfest and see the whole thing.
So far I’ve only watched it in front of the screen, or looked at the individual panels on youtube afterwards, but live it’s always something else.

There is still some time to think about it, but there are currently two good reasons why I am hesitating.
The first one is quite understandable. The whole fun costs one evenly to the 1,000€ and for a short trip alone without family it is not evenly little.

So make especially the outward and return flight including hotel with the bulk of the budget. Food and the like at this point not considered.
The entrance ticket itself makes up a smaller amount and can be more easily absorbed compared to the other costs.

The second reason is still the very uncertain situation with Covid19. Currently, our beloved friend is spreading again at a rapid pace and I can not foresee how it will look at the time of May.
And if can still make a decision in the short term, so 2 – 3 months before. It will be a bit more expensive then, because the discounts are gone but for that I would be on the safe side.

What I would definitely find very interesting would be a kind of digital pass where you could watch the individual panels and not the off. Streaming content from CCP.
I feel that would be a good compromise.

In sum, at this point in time, there is more to be said against it than in favor of it but maybe it will change.
What is for sure is that I would love to fly to Fanfest once, just for the atmosphere.

What is not canceled can always be done again. I am happy about the announcement and hope that some exciting things will be shown here.
